Na-Au-Say Township carries a Native American name that supposedly means "headwaters of the AuSable," a reference to the creek that meanders through it.

The township is governed by an elected Town Board of a Supervisor and four Trustees. The Township also has an elected Assessor, Clerk, and Highway Commission
